Bangkok,Thailand

Mar 20 and 21

Ater leaving Singapore (again) on the 17th we had a day
at sea and a stop in Koh Samui, Thailand (didn’t get off).
Sunday and Monday we were visiting Bangkok and
surrounding area.

On day one we visited Bang Pa In Summer Palace including
Chinese Wehat Chamrun Palace, Ayutthaya (UNESCO
Site), which included WAT Chai Wattanaru (replica of
Angkor Wat) and Wat Mahathat. (Wat means temple).
I broke down and took an elephant ride.

We had dinner and a small show at a nearby restaurant.
The dinner was nice but show was too brief.

The next day we took a cruise through Bangkok
waterways. We they went to the Grand Palace which
was incredible. The most important temple there
was the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (actually jade).
I was surprised that it was a very small Buddha and far
away so you could not really tell is was jade. I have
seen many larger and even gigantic buddhas. But
the overall complex was gorgeous (another
mini Angkor Wat.

I think I’m just as glad we didn’t pay the huge
price to go to Angkor Wat.
